Travel - A Taste of Italy and the Western Mediterranean - Working Cruise

Image
Working Onboard Cruise Ships So here I am again on the Ocean waves. For the next 3 weeks I will be heading from the UK towards the Western Mediterranean and Italy then returning back to the UK. As you are aware from previous working cruises  I love working onboard and accept the contracts that are offered to me with gratitude.  Working as a Fitness and Yoga instructor on cruise ships does come with its challenges. Mainly being aware that the floor 'moves' at sea and at times unpredictably. This means that I have to pay particular attention to my sequences and exercise routines. For example any balance poses are not advisable so I tend to do mostly mat work and exercising from a chair. I work with the older generation so this does actually bode well.           Download My Little Booklet of Yin Yoga and Holistic Healing This, of course, does limit the type of classes I can do and the main priority for me is to keep passengers motivated to ret...

Chair Fitness - Can I Improve my Fitness and Wellbeing with Chair Exercises

Image
Improving your Fitness and Health There are many that believe exercising from a chair is just for those who are not mobile or capable of exercises in a more traditional or energetic way. Whilst this may be true to some extent, chair classes or workouts are for everyone to enjoy. They can be adapted for those who are limited with their mobility or for those that are suffering an injury, but they can also be adjusted to increase your health and fitness levels. Sitting in a chair whilst exercising is gentler on your joints and alleviates pressure on achy and uncomfortable knees, hips and ankles.  Workouts from a chair based exercise routine can increase your flexibility and mobility, enhance your cardio health and endurance as well as build and maintain your strength.  Do not be under the assumption that sitting equals easy. This is not the case. You can burn calories and work up a sweat even from a chair.  I love teaching chair classes and I am learning new methods o...

Travel - A Working Cruise to the Western Mediterranean - Chair Fit and Yin Yoga

Image
Working Cruise - Chair Fit and Yoga I have been really looking forward to this cruise. I feel very prepared with my own YouTube channel , which means that the classes I am teaching onboard will hopefully continue for the passengers once they are home. I have always given handouts to passengers but videos are far more motivational with a higher probability that they will continue to exercise and gain greater results. There are 3 days at sea before we dock in the first port of call, so it is important for me to get the passengers interest on day 1. The cruise company is very supportive and make sure that everything is prepared on the first day. All the chairs are placed in a semi circle and the music and microphone are set up 30 minutes before the class begins. I was delighted to see that all the seats were taken 10 minutes before the start time of the class and some of the passengers were seated on the easy chairs in the outer area of the stage. This is so pleasing as the passenge...

Staying Active as you Age - The Benefits and Reasons for Exercise

Image
Age and the Importance of Exercise Staying active is significantly more important as we get older. Keeping mobile and energetic can help to prevent diseases such as chronic heart disease, hypertension and type II diabetes. As we age our bodies become weaker and we become more prone to injury and illness. All this can have a huge impact on our independent living and ability to thoroughly enjoy our latter years. Some of the reasoning behind lack of exercise is actually insufficient knowledge on movement and mobility fitness. There is a lot of information out there on fitness but it's knowing where to look for exercise programmes or workouts that are fitting for our lifestyle and abilities. Social media is full of extraordinary athletes and agile sports people but we are not all capable of this sort of fitness routine.  My job entails teaching various age groups about fitness, mobility and flexibility. I often hear the words "I am too old to start any exercise routines now...

The Importance of Health and Wellness Listening to our own body is of the utmost importance for our health and well-being. Start to observe any sensations and emotions within and take note of anything that feels unusual or unfamiliar to you.
