A Reset Holiday - How does this Benefit your Health
Reset Holiday
We all love a holiday from the research to the booking, counting down the days and finally it arrives. We choose a holiday for several reasons. Maybe one that suits our budget or perhaps a luxury one that we save our hard earned cash for or perhaps an annual return holiday that we feel comfortable with knowing and loving a certain destination.
A reset holiday is different. It is intentional, carefully designed for your current needs with the activities or hobbies that bring you the most joy in life. Perhaps activities that you do daily as a habit but want to explore or enjoy more.
The intention of a reset holiday is to lower your stress levels, slow down your thoughts, recharge your body and mind, regain your focus, break bad habits and to improve your sleep.
Unlike a normal holiday where the focus is on having a good time a reset is focused on recovery, gentle analysis, getting away from any sort of routine and an evaluation of your goals.
The Benefits
I recently wrote an article on Finding your personal retreat which is more about inner growth than a reset. A reset is more of a cognitive rest time and giving your brain a complete break from overthinking and problem solving helping you feel more efficient and functional when you return to everyday life.
Choose your reset holiday wisely. You need to think about what makes you unwind, brings you enjoyment and lowers your stress levels, all at the same time. This can be mentally or physically stimulating. The activities you enjoy bring you energy, joy, happiness and have a calming influence on your body and your thoughts. For example the things I love are:
- Writing
- Yoga
- Gym Workouts
- Strength Training
- Reading
- Travelling
- Sea Views
- Meditation
For a reset holiday I chose walking and sea views. Why? Because I know that walking feels good for me and I would have all day (and night if I wish) to walk with no worries about getting back or any time limits. Sea views because I feel a sense of calm and clarity when I look at the sea.
I love all the other activities on my list. But I do see the possibility of some form of distraction, exhaustion or stress occurring during these other pursuits at this moment in time. This doesn't mean I will never choose other activities on a reset holiday but for this intentional reset, I chose what I feel is best for me at the moment.
Health Benefits - Physically and Mentally
Your whole physical and mental well-being will benefit from a reset holiday. You want to feel ready for your return with a clear head space, redefined goals and physically capable. A reset is to focus primarily on yourself and your aspirations.
Physical Benefits
Immunomodulators: Natural immune support helps the body to repair itself. A deep reset will repair the body and reduce fatigue and boost energy.
Improved sleep: Focus and clearing the mind of negative or stressful thoughts will improve the quality of your sleep.
Mobility: Having more time for gentle activity increases movement and mobility. Gentle movement improves joint stability and fluidity.
Movement: Lowers blood pressure and supports heart health. Walking, swimming, cycling, jogging, gardening or any sort of movement in a different environment doesn't feel like a chore or challenge and keeps the blood flowing smoothly.
Mental Benefits
Refreshed Mood: Being someplace else, a new environment or a favourite place will brighten your mood and make you feel you are in a happier place
Increased Focus: With no external distraction, your focus can become a priority as you re-evaluate your goals.
Lower Stress Levels: Cortisol reduction as you move away from every day life and focus on your reset, evaluations and external pressures.
Habit Monitoring: Journaling or self-monitoring can help pin-point bad habits or habitual self-doubt. A simple look at what you do or think everyday helps analyse your mood swings and negative thoughts.
Finding a clear mind with a view of the calming sea
As you reset your mind and body with focus and movement, remove present issues and negative thoughts, you will return to a routine that is a clear foundation and a fresh start whilst staying true to your fundamental beliefs

My four day reset holiday was intentional and perfect for me. My coastal path walks amounted to 100,488 steps of mind clearing time and movement activity.
My life has changed drastically over the last few years in both good ways and not so good ways. Life is about balance, finding joy in the little things and being grateful when times are pleasant. It is not an easy task but a nice foundation for thoughts.
I needed time to assess my goals in life and whether I needed to re-think some of them and create more doable goals for the future. We change during our life span and we have to accept the changes with gratitude and not fight those things we cannot change. Embracing and accepting sit alongside very comfortably with gratitude
