Finding Your Way to a Regular Exercise Routine

Image
Exercise and Consistency Finding your way to a regular exercise routine doesn't sound difficult. But the truth is, we are human and we get bored with regular, unremarkable regimes. At the start of any journey there is excitement and unpredictability, so we delve into anything new with gusto and enthusiasm. Our expectations are high and the results are never quite what we wanted.  Understanding that exercise and fitness levels do come to those who persevere. I have had many clients, students and friends that have reaped the benefits from exercise, yet still the motivation and enthusiasm does not remain constant and in some cases, sadly it leaves all together. Unfortunately with this, regret follows and I so often hear the words "I felt so much better when I was exercising, I don't know why I stopped" . I can pretty much guarantee that most of you who are reading this will be nodding your head in agreement. We have all done this and find we need to summon up the energ

5 of My Favourite Wellness and Self-Healing Books

Image
The Self-Healing Qualities of Reading a Book I love a good book whether it's fact or fiction. I just really enjoy a good read and in this digital age it's nice to have some time away from the screen. I spend a lot of time choosing a book. I like it to look and feel nice and I think this is all part of the reading experience.  There are so many books, websites, podcasts and online information on well-being and self-healing. It's very difficult to know where to start. So I have put together a list (in no particular order) of my favourite books on this subject. It is not just the content but also the look and feel of the book itself. The Little Book of Hygge - by Meik Wiking Firstly, this is one of the most beautiful looking books I have ever purchased. The colours are calming, the design is so delightfully put together and the whole feel of the book is exquisite.  Hygge is a Danish way of life that encompasses the art of creating cosiness and taking great pleasure from the

9 Impressive Mature Women Astounding the Fitness World with their Age-Defying Bodies

Women and Ageing I am so pleased to see older women accomplishing celebrated feats within the fitness industry. This is not because I am myself in the category of the 'older woman' , but because I am an advocate of exercise for health and the prevention of age related diseases.  Ageing is not easy. I am grateful for each year I am here, but as I get older, I do realise that I need to add more strength training to help me maintain a good level of mobility and independence.  The amazing thing about strength training is that you can start at any age.  With consistency you will reap better health, an increase in bone strength, a decrease in body fat and improvements in your balance and coordination. Again, a great help to us as we age by reducing our chances of a fall and fractures.  We are all living longer and the over 50's age group, born in the mid 1960's and onward, are part of a growth area of the population. By 2030, it is estimated the number of people over the age

The Best Youtube Home Workouts

Image
Youtube Home Workouts I like to mix up my workouts from gym training to HIIT's to resistance band workouts. When you are short of time and a visit to your local exercise class isn't an option, then a homework will fit the bill perfectly.  At the moment we do not have a choice of course, but once normality returns and we are working longer hours, don't use the excuse of 'being too tired' or 'having no time' to exercise. Home workouts are instant, come in all shapes and sizes and available at the touch of a button..........and accessible anytime of the day or night.  I have been instructing classes online during this lockdown with my  private facebook group  members and it has been a lot of fun.  We have had gym sessions, strength training and circuit classes. My group members have done really well and are reaping the benefits of keeping active during these uncertain times. Staying active at any age, will help you live a healthier and happier life. 7 of my Favourite Health and Wellness Apps

Image
Wellness Apps Find health and wellness on your smart phone in an instant. Whether you are exercising, eating a healthy diet or simply relaxing and working on a stress free life ...... health and wellness apps are just a 'tap away'. So many apps nowadays record your progress in a number of ways......daily charts, weekly summaries, graphs and pie charts to help you keep track of your goals.  Not all apps are the same and I have spent 'many a time' figuring out how to use them. To be honest I have been a little disappointed with some and totally confused by others.  As I have mentioned on various blogs......I am trying to work on reducing my stress levels and practising mindfulness and self-care. I am lucky to be motivated enough to continue with my fitness routines and healthy eating, but I still need to monitor my progress and set new goals. Health and wellness however, are not just about my exercise and diet, but also my mental wellness and calm mind.   So to keep it

9 of the Best Free Weight Loss and Wellness Websites

Image
Weight Loss and Wellness Websites I am always on the hunt for new ideas on health, fitness and well-being. There are some great websites out there full of information.....it's almost too much. This year more than ever, we really need to focus on our overall health and well-being, whether its fitness, eating habits or our mental health. One way or another, over these last 12 months, lockdowns have affected at least one part, if not all of our overall health.  Living a healthy life and being the best version of ourselves is our ultimate goal. We all want to feel our best both physically and mentally but where do we start looking? I have compiled a list of my personal favourites, a few I have been following for years. With just 6 weeks to go before we can start living a semi 'normal' life....it's a good time to start investing some extra time in to our fitness, health and well-being. 9 of the Best Free Websites - My favourites HASfit.com   This is my absolute favourite w
