The Benefits of a Healthy Lifestyle

When we look after our physical health, exercise regularly, eat nutritious food and take care of our mental health we feel and look good and we are able to cope with life's challenges.

Choosing a healthy lifestyle has to be attainable to you and scheduled into your daily living. Building good habits does not have to be time consuming if you lead a hectic life. By taking just one step at a time, you can build yourself a clean and wholesome way of living. 

The Benefits of Healthy Living

  • Feel better physically and mentally - regular exercise and meditation will help you to feel better and lift your mood. Try and schedule some time in your day to walk for 30 minutes or target your 10,000 steps per day as a goal. Take a 10 minute break to stretch your body and take 10 deep nourishing breaths to energize and calm the mind.
  • Finances - Save your pennies by preparing your food. Buying snacks, fizzy drinks, sugar laden coffees and sweet treats all cost money and are not necessary or healthy. 
  • Look after your health - choosing a healthier lifestyle lowers your risk of illnesses such as type II diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
  • Take control - choosing a healthier lifestyle means you take control of how you look and feel.

A healthy lifestyle all starts with a plan of action. Making a plan to ease in with your daily schedule so as not to overwhelm yourself is the best action you can take. Rome wasn't built in a day and this is the same principle you should apply to your healthier life goals. Look at your exercise regime and your food intake. Can you increase your cardiovascular exercise by increasing your steps or maybe add a walk to your day perhaps during your lunch break or after your main meal? Can you improve your eating habits by replacing sugary foods with fruit or savoury snacks A Healthy Lifestyle

One of the fundamental components of fitness is balance and probably one of the most overlooked. Balance like everything else requires focus and practice. Some people have good balancing skills and just need to maintain this with practice whilst others struggle and need to set aside time and think about adding balance training to their fitness regime

Engaging in a regular stretch class or yoga practice calms the mind, releases tension in tight muscles and reduces stress in the body. Chronic tension can lead to long term health issues such as high blood pressure, depression and insomnia. Stretching is not a quick 2 minute session after a run, its a part of your fitness programme to add mobility and flexibility to your body. Stretching resets your body, ensures your body holds no tension, improves your flexibility and range of movement, preventing injury and allows your body's recovery process to take place whilst you sleep.
Living a healthy lifestyle, being the best version of ourselves and living a life free of illness is the ultimate goal. When we feel this good we can enjoy each moment as it passes by, feeling energized and full of zest. This can only be achieved if we take care of our mind, body and energy. To do this we need to figure out what is best for us. We are individuals with different requirements from our exercise and nutritional needs. We should focus on a combination of an exercise routine and a healthy eating plan. There is a balance here that we must enjoy as well, so we can continue with consistency. Living a healthy lifestyle is a big passion of mine, so I have compiled a list of my favourite health and wellbeing websites, I have followed for a number of years and where I have gained the most valuable information.
