Don't Complicate Life too Much - Make it Simple
Life Can be Simple not Complicated
Life doesn't have to be complicated. The acceptance that life isn't easy will help us a great deal to re-establish a healthier mindset towards an uncomplicated life. The acceptance that we cannot change the things we can't control. All the analysis and worrying in the world will never change anything that is uncontrollable. At times we are in pursuit of unobtainable things making our lives more complex. Acceptance is the key to simplicity by acknowledgement of life as it happens without a fixation on how you want it to be or how you think it shouldn't be.
We have to remember too that not everything will work out as planned and we will make mistakes. From this point we learn and we grow. We do not complicate matters by over-reacting or dwelling on negative thoughts such as "life is so unfair". We move on, understanding that such is life and not overthinking and judging ourselves or anyone else.
Nurture peace and simplicity into your life every single day. Make this a conscious decision to "uncomplicate" your life
"Don't complicate life too much"
Eckhart Tolle
Simplicity still takes work
It sounds so simple but even simplicity itself takes work. Like anything else you want to achieve, it will take time and practice. To get a promotion you need to put in a little more effort, to win at your sport you have to train harder and to pass an exam you have to find some time to revise.
Be your authentic self
Be true to your core beliefs and be honest. By being genuine you will not be influenced by others or governed by social media, even if this means making unpopular decisions in life. Do what you believe in and what you are capable of. People make their own choices, don't let their wants impact on your preferences or your pathway in life.
Do what feels right for you
Be kind, thoughtful, understanding and sympathetic to others but also have the courage to say "no" if you feel uncomfortable or unsettled with a situation or a person. People pleasing is very destructive. There are many "manipulators" out there who prey on those who put others before themselves. It is very hard sometimes to say "no" especially if this makes you feel unkind or uncaring, but self-care is crucial if you want to simplify your life.
Make sure you rest
Rest is vital for healing and recovery. Yes, we do need to be productive in our day or nothing will be achieved. We must not put too much pressure on ourselves regardless of what we want to achieve. Also remind yourself that not everything you are working on has to be perfect. Some days you can do what needs to be done yet other days you seem to excel in everything you do. This is life, so accept there will be days where rest is more productive for your body and just enjoy your recuperation time.
Steer clear of the Drama
Sit back and notice but steer clear of the drama queens. You don't need this if you want a simplistic life. Stay calm and disconnect with these overdramatic people. I watch and admire those that observe and remain undisturbed by this behaviour. The ones that over-react never win in these situations and only fuel those who crave the drama.
Find your inner circle
Connect with those that bring joy and happiness into your life. Start to notice how you feel around the people you socialise with. Some people can drag you down whilst others bring only negative vibes to social gatherings. It is time to go inside your own body and notice your intuitions and emotional self. Embrace this self awareness and cultivate healthy coping strategies when handling unexpected challenges or dealing with toxic relationships. Notice your feelings on social media platforms or receiving messages from individuals. Declutter your life from negative and toxic people.
Keeping it Simple
Unclutter your life and make room for the things that matter whether this is hobbies, family and friends or simply just finding time to read a book. Connect with your inner circle and with mother nature. Making life a little simpler will allow for creativity and connection. Start to look for the simple things in life too. These are the things we miss with a complicated and over busy life.
- Enjoy the quiet times to read, write or meditate. If we are always busy and 'doing stuff', the quiet times then relate only to boredom. But the quiet times should be the moments where we embrace the simple things and treasure walks in nature, time with friends or a 10 minute stretch
- Try some decluttering. This can be a drawer in your kitchen, your inbox or your wardrobe. Decluttering can help to clear the mind as well as some space. I keep promising myself to clear up my google storage. Every time I receive a message informing me that I could lose some of my photos or files, it spoils my day with very negative vibes. If I just take an hour or so to delete the things I no longer need it would make all the difference.
- Make time for the things in life that make you happy. For some this might mean making that long distance phone call to a friend overseas, for others it might be adding exercise to their day. Whatever makes you happy, find the time to do it.
- Sit quietly and breathe. It is the simplest thing of all. Yet we very rarely do this. If you cannot sit alone, quietly, with no distractions then you will never be able to simplify anything. Practice sitting in stillness. This does not mean cross-legged on the floor (unless you practice meditation and are comfortable this way), it means anywhere you feel at ease. You may wish to sit on your sofa or perhaps in a park somewhere. Just learn to sit quietly.
Hopefully with a New Year ahead of us we will embrace our feelings and become more self-aware of our lifestyle and our relationships. We need to make good choices for self-care, for our happiness and rest when our bodies tell us to.
Work on yourself and make your life uncomplicated. Don't live your life for others and disconnect with drama and distractions.
