Taking Care of your Health and Wellness
The Importance of Health and Wellness
Listening to our own body is of the utmost importance for our health and well-being. Start to observe any sensations and emotions within and take note of anything that feels unusual or unfamiliar to you. Perhaps you have connected an intolerance/allergy to a certain food or a particular product by keeping a food diary or journal.
Understanding your body is a 'plus' for self-care and awareness. There are of course times that you will need to consult a specialist if you feel ill or unwell, but taking care of yourself and assessing how you feel each day will pay rewards in maintaining your well-being and physical fitness
Good mental and physical health rely on consistent healthy habits repeated daily. So how do we stay healthy:
- Eat healthy foods daily - A healthy approach to achieving optimal health is through nutrition. Healthy food equals a healthy body and a healthy mind
- Stay hydrated - drinking plenty of water will keep you hydrated throughout the day. Drinking water also assists the process of eliminating toxins from the body
- Exercise daily - exercise is essential for mental and physical well-being. Exercise keeps the mind and body healthy and is known to reduce signs of stress, anxiety and depression
- Getting a good nights sleep - good quality sleep helps to protect the immune system, increase concentration levels and will help to keep you focused. There are activities you can do prior to bedtime to aid a more relaxing sleep at night. For example meditation, stretching, turning off all distractions half an hour before you go to bed such as social media apps, computers, T.V's and refrain from drinking caffeine (coke, coffee and tea) four hours before bedtime.
- Hygiene - keep yourself and your living space clean. Don't let germs gather, keep your bedding clean and shower regularly.
We exist in a very hectic world and live a very 'Yang' lifestyle. Adding a little Yin into our over busy lives will invite a slower and more relaxing pace. Yin yoga is a form of 'self-awareness' and 'self-exploration' yoga. Yin allows us to go deep inside to explore our emotions, to feel any sensations within our body and to investigate where we are holding stress and tension. Yin brings flexibility and mobility to our joints and peace and tranquillity to our minds.
